Not to be outdone by the [rumored YouTube Mobile][1] site, Sling Media, makers of the [Slingbox][2], have [announced][3] the Sling Player Mobile for Palm OS. The new software makes it possible to watch your Sling media on Treos and other Palm OS smart phones. The software is [currently a free beta][1] with the final version shipping later this year. Once the final version becomes available Sling Player Mobile will cost $30, though Sling says there will be a free 30-day trial. There are no monthly or recurring charges for the use of the software. The interesting thing about Sling is that have so far avoided partnering with any of the mobile carriers. To use Sling Mobile you will of course need to have a Slingbox and some sort of wireless or 3G network, but the service is not tied to any wireless provider. Sling Mobile is already available for Windows Mobile devices.
