Remember when everyone had a 'blogroll' and that was how your discovered other cool sites? It's shame that got lost somewhere along the way. I think it's still an awesome way to discover new sites. Here are some of the people that enrich my world.

### Travel Writing

Personally I don't care about destination reviews. I refuse to visit sites that stoop to *Top X about Y* headlines and I don't really care who paid for you to go visit Cancun and *wasn't the food at the resort just delightful*? Life is too brief to waste your time reading that sort of crap.

Which of course means I don't follow many travel blogs. Here is my list of travel websites that don't suck:

* [Notes From the Road](http://www.notesfromtheroad.com/) -- If you only click one link in this list, make it this one.

* [Inhab.it](http://inhab.it/) -- I can't remember how I found inhab.it (I think we have a mutual friend maybe?) but I'm glad I did. Click this one too.

* [Vagabond Journey](http://www.vagabondjourney.com/) -- I first started [following Wade Shepard's site](http://www.vagablogging.net/the-future-of-vagabonding-and-long-term-travel.html) back when I was [editing Rolf Potts' Vagablogging.net](http://www.vagablogging.net/vagablogging-alumni.html). If my math is right, Wade has been traveling continuously for over 15 years now. There is not much about travel that he has not figured out.

* [Expeditionary Art](http://expeditionaryart.com/) -- I love this site and am wildly jealous of the amazing artistic talent on display here.

* [Idlewords](http://idlewords.com/) -- Maciej Cegłowski runs [Pinboard.in](https://pinboard.in/) (which I love) and writes some of the longest, best travel pieces you'll find on the web. He also gives [great](http://idlewords.com/bt14.htm) [talks](https://static.pinboard.in/webstock_2014.htm). We share a [strong dislike](http://idlewords.com/2005/04/dabblers_and_blowhards.htm) of [the pompous ass that is Paul Graham](https://luxagraf.net/jrnl/2004/10/art-essay).

* [Expert Vagabond](http://expertvagabond.com/) -- Most travel blogs are utter crap, this one is not. Mathew is a talented photographer, good writer and has something all too rare in traveler's these days -- a sense of adventure.

* [Adventure Journal](http://www.adventure-journal.com/) -- One of two magazine-style travel sites I follow. As with anything collaborative it's hit or miss, but there are some great essays for travelers, naturalists and adventurers.

### Living Frugally

Please do not mistake frugal for cheap. There's a reason he was the Frugal Gourmet, not the cheap gourmet. Cheap people have no soul, don't be one.

* [Early Retirement Extreme]() -- Jacob Fisker stopped blogging a while ago, but everything he wrote remains good advice for anyone looking to extract themeselves from the consumer mindset.

* [Mr Money Mustache]() -- Subscribe. Learn. Consume less, produce more. Retire if you want, travel if you want.

### Photography

I wouldn't join Instagram if you paid me and Flickr is a shell of it's former self, which makes it a little hard to find good photographers. If you're looking for great travel photos be sure to follow both Notes from the Road and Expert Vagabond. Other photo-related sites I follow:

[Traveler](http://traveler.collin-hughes.com/journal/) -- Collin Hughes is primarily a fashion photographer, which means he travels a lot. The site is not updated very frequently, but Traveler is full of fantastic portraits of people and places around the world.

[Shakas and Single Fins](http://shakasandsinglefins.com/) -- Ryan Tatar's photos make me want to drop everything and just go surfing. And I haven't surfed since I was 15. His work also sometimes turns up in the aforementioned [Adventure Journal](http://www.adventure-journal.com/).

### Living Well

I'm not quite sure how to describe David Cain's blog so I just gave it it's own category. It's nearly always interesting and manages to be genuinely helpful in ways that transcend the genre that's always in danger of swallowing the things it contains. Anyway, read [Rapititude](http://www.raptitude.com/), you might like it.

### Sketches and Artwork

* [Molly Crabapple](http://mollycrabapple.com/sketchbook/) -- I can't remember how I first heard of this one, but I love her sketches.
